I am so excited about the 2016-2017 school year that is about to begin at Phillip C. Showell Elementary! The amazing staff at Phillip C. Showell is dedicated to the students and our number one priority is to help all our students grow and achieve their highest potential. We continually strive to foster a caring, safe learning environment that sets high expectations not only of our students, but also of ourselves.
This year, we have been given an opportunity, through generous support from our PTO, community organizations, and a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, to work with local artist, John Donato. He will be working with our students, parents, staff and community members to create a large mural in our front hallway that will help us illustrate our school community and culture of a growth mindset. We are so thankful to all who have contributed and helped to make this mural a reality.
The success of our students could not be truly reached without the support and involvement of the parents and guardians. We highly encourage our parents to become more involved in our school. There are many opportunities to become involved such as becoming a classroom or school volunteer, mentor, or attending and becoming a member of our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).
Our goal is to increase and also enhance our communication with the parents, guardians and school community. Our PTO meetings this school year will be designed to include “Parent Information and Education” sessions which will be led by our teachers. Ideas for meetings include STEM activities (science, technology, math), the new ELA and Math curriculum, Technology Education for Parents, and tips for supporting your child at home, to name a few. In addition to our website, please look for newsletters, phone communications and our Phillip C. Showell PTO Facebook page to help us keep you informed of what’s going on and coming up at PCS.
As always, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions on how we can better serve you and your child, please call us. I am looking forward to seeing familiar faces return, as well as meeting new faces and getting to know your child, and your family. Again, welcome to our PCS family! See you in September!
